The Xenia Country House is located in the very heart of the national park of Cilento, Vallo di Danio e Alburni, second in italy for dimension and declared as (world human heritage) from UNESCO, tha goes from the Tyrrhenian coast till (the foot/ the end) of the “appennino campano-lucano”, including the heights of the Alburni, the Cervati and the Gelbison, as well as the coastal buttresses of mount Bulgheria and mount Stella.
Along with the extraordinary natural beauty, due to considerable heterogeneity of the area, there also are the mythological and mysterious character of a land rich in history and culture : from the call of the nymph Leucosia to the beaches where Palinuro left Aeneas, from the remains of the Greek colony of Elea and Paestum to the wonderful Certosa di Padula. The privileged location of the house allows its guests to easily reach the most beautiful and picturesque beaches and bays of the Tyrrhenian Sea, including: Cala Bianca near Camerota (59 Km) elected the most beautiful in Italy in 2013 by Legambiente ; the suggestive Palinuro ( 52Km ) with its natural arch ; the romantic Acciaroli (26 km) with its ancient village, which seems to have inspired Hemingway in writing the ” Old Man and the Sea” ; the cinematographic Santa Maria di Castellabate (21 km) the set of the film “Benvenuti al Sud” ; ending with the mythological Punta Licosa (30 Km) , where an ancient legend says that the mermaid Leucosia was transformed into a rock after being thrown from a cliff due to unrequited love. The nearest cities, Casalvelino and Ascea, are 16 km away.
A few kilometers away are located important natural parks such as: the Oasis of the river Alento (10 Km), the resurgence of Bussento and the WWF Oasis of Bussento and of Persano, the suggestive gorges of the Calore and the Caves of Castelcivita and Dell’Angelo in Pertosa, ending with the observatory Aresta of Petina on the top of mount Alburni, at an heigh of 1300mt.
Moreover, the area is particularly rich in archaeological sites of international importance, such as: the archaeological area of Velia (23 km); the archaeological area of Paestum with its National Archaeological Museum (33 km); the ashes of the ancient pre-roman city of Volcei near Buccino; the medieval Chartreuse of San Lorenzo in Padula, ending with the ghost villages of Roscigno vecchia, Sacco vecchia and San Severino di Centola.
Just an hour’s drive there’s Salerno, with an hour and a half and you’ll be in Positano in the Divine Amalfi Coast, a popular destination of the international jet set; not far in the area of Vallo di Diano there’s Contursi with its famous hot springs.
